What is dental inlays and onlays?
Dental inlays
and onlays are basically the same kind of restoration, but it covers different
areas of the tooth. A dental inlay is a filling that fills up the centre spaces
in between the rounded edges of a tooth. This filling consists of a solid
element which is fitted and cemented into a cavity in a tooth. This process
involves constructing the restoration outside of the mouth using the dental
impressions of the prepared tooth, rather than filling it inside of the mouth.
A dental onlay works the same as an inlay, with the exception of it covering
one or more or the entire biting surface of the tooth. Dental onlays are
sometimes referred to as “partial crowns’ due to its extensive coverage.
