Following
are a few things that may be disadvantages of TN porcelain veneers:
- Unfortunately once it has been cemented in place, the color can’t be altered;
- Porcelain veneers are not good for people who grind or clench their teeth, or whose teeth are worn and meets edge to edge; as the pressure can cause chipping and fracturing of the veneers. A preventative night splint is most certainly recommended for these cases;
- Porcelain veneers are financially more than composite resin bonding;
- Normally the whole porcelain veneer has to be replaced if it breaks;
- Usually recommended for relatively healthy teeth and not recommended for teeth with a lot of decay, multiple fillings, very large fractures or any situation where there is not a good amount of enamel for bonding to;
- Most certainly not suggested for very crooked or misaligned teeth;
- Most probably would need replacing in a bout 10-20 years due to failure;
- Might experience sensitivity to hot and cold as a side effect;
- Not as strong as crowns;
- Can fail;
- The natural tooth around the veneers can still decay.
